Mobile devices have become the center of our lives. Can you remember the last time, you didn’t use your phone, tablet, or laptop for an entire day? We use mobile devices constantly, and when something goes wrong, we need to take our devices to trusted repair professionals.
But how do we know we can trust them? Consumers need trusted service providers to repair their mobile devices.
That’s where Wireless Industry Service Excellence (WISE™) comes in. WISE is the first recognized industry standard for mobile device repair.
Built by the Repair Industry
As mobile device usage grew, so did the pain from the lack of repair industry standard. Standards are essential to provide industry best practices and consumer peace of mind.
Born from necessity, WISE was created to fill the gap. Built by the repair industry for the repair industry, wireless carriers, device manufacturers, and key leaders in reverse logistics created a certification program for both technicians and repair retailers.
Today, WISE is recognized in the industry as the only standard championing excellence in third-party device repair.
What WISE Means for Consumers
With more than 6 billion smartphone users worldwide and a projected 7.5 billion by 2026, it’s no secret we live on these devices. When these devices fail, it’s no wonder that panic and anxiety are close behind.
When consumers see the WISE logo at a WISE Authorized Service Provider, they can trust the technicians handling their devices have met the industry standard set by subject matter experts. Their data and device will be handled in the most effective, safest, and environmentally responsible way.
WISE Certifications
The central way WISE propagates their standard is through technician and repair retailer certifications.
As of June 2021, over 8,500 mobile device repair certifications have been awarded. There are three types of certifications: Level 1 Technician, Level 2 Technician, and Retail Store.
A Level 1 Certified Technician is a technician who has passed the WISE Certification Knowledge Exam and is considered qualified to repair or resolve issues without opening the device. Topics covered include everything from common smartphone features to the diagnosis and triage process.
The Level 1 certification is ideal for the following:
- Technicians looking to advance to a Level 2 Technician Certification
- Companies who want to become a CTIA Authorized Service Provider Certification
- Customer-facing, non-technical staff in wireless retail and repair shops
A Level 2 Certified Technician has passed the WISE Level 1 Knowledge Exam and completed a training program facilitated by a licensed WISE Level 2 facilitator. Level 2 education provides practical skills training and demonstrations on live devices.
Technicians can only earn their Level 2 Certification from a retail service provider or training facility who is a licensed administrator. These providers have an active training program and have been fully audited by the WISE Certification team.
The WISE Certification for repair retailers is WISE Authorized Service Provider (ASP), conveying service excellence. Certification is awarded based on each retailer meeting the program’s standards. Reserved only for repair retailers, the scope of the program is focused on mobile devices.
Once certified, ASPs can use the WISE logo on storefronts, clothing, and vehicles. ASPs will also be listed in the WISE’s online directory.
AGiRepair & WISE
AGiRepair was one of the industry pioneers to help build what WISE is today. Technical Manager, Jonathan Nestor, has been AGiRepair’s representative and leads the CTIA RLSQ Technician Training Working Group that determines the certification requirements.
In May 2021, AGiRepair offered five scholarships for the Level 1 Technician Certification to bolster WISE’s efforts to certify more technicians. Technicians only needed to apply for the certification scholarship. Due to the quality of applications, AGiRepair awarded eight scholarships instead of five. The winners were announced in June 2021.
